Week 3: Look Development

Updated: May 30, 2022

We started the week by presenting our progress so far.

My main goal for the week was to finish look dev for the car, so I started by UVing the model. It came with UVs that worked fairly well, but they were split apart into many small UV shells, so much of my time was spent stitching those together. I separated and laid them out by material, resulting in the varied scale of the test grid.

I also received the HDR footage from Joleen, but there were issues putting the HDRI together, so I added it to the look dev rig as an LDR. This still allowed us to get a good idea of the overall lighting of the scene and showed how the forest reflections would look on top the car for the overhead CG shot.

I then kept working on look dev for the car shaders, refining the ones I already had, and creating the rest of the car materials.

Since we are going to be animating the car ourselves, I also made a simple car rig. The features that will help us most are that it allows control of each tire individually, the front and back tires together, and when the car is moved forwards, the wheels turn.
